Spending a regular day with your dad is always fun, but you’ll want to impress him on Father’s Day, right? Well, if you’re around Seattle for the weekend, then we’ve got the list for you because these are the absolute coolest places to share a fun evening or two with him. Not only that, but we’ll include a couple of impressive sights around the Puget Sound so you can both enjoy the sea breeze and sunset together.

We will include places that go beyond the usual tourist experience since you’re probably too familiar with them already, and we don’t want to keep your dad waiting in line after line all weekend for some Father’s Day events in Seattle. So get your tickets ready, pack your bags, and explore Seattle in style!

Take the Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour

How about starting your tour of Seattle with the original city? As you might know, 31 blocks were burned to the ground in the 1889 Great Seattle Fire, and that part of the city was reconstructed, streets and all, two stories higher than the original. The underground maze of century-old storefronts and street are still trapped down there. And you can still visit them! Take dad down to the Bill Speidel's Underground Tour of Seattle’s gone but not forgotten old city blocks on a 75-minute guided tour, full of unique sites, humorous parts of the city’s early history, and a variety of cool sights at every step.

A trip on the Washington State Ferries

OK, we said we’d try to stay away from the usual stuff, but you really can’t say you visited Seattle at all if you don’t jump into a Washington State Ferry and cross the Puget Sound!  We recommend you take the Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry, which takes only 45 minutes out of your day and lets you see the beautiful skyline, smell the ocean breeze, and peek at the West Seattle beaches and its lovely houses. If you want to make the most out of it, there’s a Bainbridge Island Nature Reserve Walk tour that includes lunch, and takes you further into the amazing natural surroundings of Seattle.

Take to the skies on a seaplane flight

Seattle’s development in the early years of the 20th century was partly thanks to seaplane travel, and you can revive some of that history with a tour of the city’s skyline, including a bird’s eye view of many landmarks, including the Space Needle, CenturyLink Field, and Mount Rainier in the distance. The whole trips take about 20-minutes, depending on the kind of flight you book, but we recommend that you fly with Kenmore Airs, which departs from Lake Union and can take you around Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier. The sights are all very much worth it.

The Crocodile

We’re pretty sure that your dad is pretty cool, but if he’s extra-pretty cool, then he’ll love catching a live show at The Crocodile, a venue that saw many of grunge rock’s biggest acts still in their infancy, such as Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, and others. Yes, that might have been ages ago, but The Croc’s still a good place to enjoy live independent bands doing their thing or get a taste of Seattle’s current local scene, and if you or your dad have any appreciation for the genre, you’ll enjoy yourselves. The best part is that you can still enjoy these shows with all the perks of being an adult, like getting away from the mosh pit and eating some delicious pizza on the balcony instead.

Woodinville Wine Country

Want something more refined but still outdoorsy and rugged-ish? Look no further than Woodinville Wine Country, located northeast of downtown Seattle. The arid climate and gravelly soil make for the perfect surroundings to have a full glass of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay, and more. With over 130 wineries and tasting rooms, you’ll have no trouble finding a good spot to sit down, relax with a nice glass of wine, and have a great conversation with dad as the sun sets on the horizon.

We hope that these things to do for Father’s Day in Seattle take you and your dad onto the best weekend you’ve had in a long, long time. Not only are you getting around the usual tourist spots, you’re enjoying each other’s company and taking some time off from the routine of everyday life. So, how about keeping that relaxed attitude back home and let someone else take care of your chores?
