Who doesn't like decorating their home with those precious moments shared with loved ones? Photo frames, however, can be a little restrictive when it comes to size and style, either being too plain or just too much. How about a DIY project to match the style of each room?

We've collected a couple of adorable homemade picture frame ideas that need no power tools an are as cheap as they are easy to make, but if you make a little mess while doing it (which is OK, everybody has to learn somehow),  then we might be able to help.

Slabs and magnets

This simple yet charming picture frame created by It’s Always Autumn is also very inexpensive, and “super easy to make, hang, and change the photo.”  picture frame decorating craft ideas

This is what you’ll need:

  • Four wood pieces that are 1.5 inches wide, .25 inches thick, and 1 foot long. These will accommodate an 8×10 or 11×14 photo.
  • Sanding block or sandpaper
  • A tube of wood adhesive/glue (so we don’t depend on the tape’s flimsy adhesive)
  • A roll of magnet tape
  • Leather or suede cord

First of all, you'll have to sand the wood pieces until smooth. When finished, set down on the table and bring out the magnetic tape. What you want to do is make a wood-magnetic tape-magnetic tape-wood sandwich, and you'll do this by taking two pieces of magnet tape and sticking them to each other, then put some glue on a piece of wood (try to make the glue line as straight as possible).

Take the backing out of one of the strips and stick it to the glued wood part. Put some glue on the second slab of wood, take the backing out of the second strip of tape and carefully set it down on the wood, having them align as perfectly as you can. Press the "sandwich" with something heavy like a paint can or a rock, and let the glue dry for 12 hours. Meanwhile, repeat the above process with another pair of wood slabs and magnetic tape strips.

After you can separate the slabs of wood without them separating from the magnetic tape, tie a piece of cord around both of the ends of a slab so that you get a little "swing." Finally, you can frame your picture by putting the top and bottom ends of it between the wood sandwiches, and hang the cord from a nail. There you go, picture perfect!
